About
Dr. Aruna J. Parekh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology at Stony Brook University. She has been a practicing neonatologist for the past 50 years, serving the Stony Brook Community for the last 14 years. Dr. Parekh is the Director of the High-risk clinic, supervising the coordination of follow-up care of NICU graduates to monitor their developmental outcomes and clinical needs. Her major clinical interest is in developmental outcomes for infants with complicated NICU courses, who frequently have long hospital stays due to multiple medical/surgical interventions during their critical period in early life. These interventions, while necessary for their survival have been known to have an impact on childhood development. Early recognition and referral to services such as Early Intervention Programs could have tremendous benefits in improving their developmental outcomes. Dr. Parekh feels very fortunate to have practiced at tertiary centers, providing a high level of care to fragile infants in High-Risk clinics affiliated with Major Medical Centers.
