About
Dr. Kaplan is an expert in pediatric emergency medicine, with over 20 years of experience evaluating and treating infants, children, and adolescents with all types of acute illness or injury. He is a native of Connecticut but was drawn to the region for family reasons. He later joined Stony Brook's inaugural pediatric emergency department team, built to improve the quality of pediatric care. He attempts to connect with children and families through knowledge of pop culture, especially action movies and rock and roll music. He can empathize with dealing with chronic illness since adolescence. Dr. Kaplan has a passion for using point-of-care ultrasound and evidence-based medicine to assist with rapid evaluation of emergencies and his other interests and research have been in pediatric asthma, trauma, and quality improvement. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage children, hiking, mountain biking, cross-training, cooking, and watching movies.
