Deborah Feliciano, NP

I was inspired to pursue a nursing career when I worked as a medical assistant for Dr Studley. He motivated me to continue my education; and in 2005 I began my nursing career at Stony Brook Hospital. I worked in medical ICR unit providing excellent care to patients with acute neurological emergencies, as well and managing patients with chronic illnesses such as MS, Parkinson's, and hypertension. Eventually I transitioned to the emergency department where I worked for 6 years. This experience allowed me to serve a large and varied population with complex and rare medical illnesses, which was instrumental to my nursing career.
In 2012 I completed my master's in science and began my career as a Nurse Practitioner at Stony Brook Urology. This has been a wonderful opportunity. I provide care for general urological and urologic oncologic issues, and pre-operative patients. 
I also speak Spanish, which has been invaluable to my nursing career. The ability to communicate diagnoses to patients in their native language allows me to connect with them in a unique way. This has always been important to me because as a child I remember going to medical appointments with my mother and having to translate for her. I recall how scared she felt because of the language barrier. I do not want my patients to experience that fear, so being able to communicate with them is very rewarding.
