Jacqueline Skarre, NP

After working many years as a nurse, and in clinical research, I pursued my nurse practitioner degree in Adult Health.  I have been in my current role for over 10 years working with patients that have pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary fibrosis-two progressive lung diseases with no cure. Stony Brook University is one of 3 centers on Long Island that specialize in pulmonary hypertension and the only ILD center on Long Island. Working for more than a decade in a specific role has given me the ability to manage medications, side effects, and other aspects of care in these populations. I am able to offer patients clinical trials for new treatments that their physician and myself are directly involved in. The advances that have been made with clinical trials have given patients more options, the ability to do more and are living longer.  I have the opportunity to host support groups for patients – even those outside of our clinic practice. My position as Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine has given me the opportunity to work with physicians whose expertise and dedication to care have helped me grow professionally and personally.
