Joan M Nastasi, CNM

Joan always knew she wanted to provide care for women and newborns. She graduated from high school as a Licensed Practical Nurse, with the goal of continuing her education. Joan went on to obtain her RN from Queensborough College in 1983, beginning her calling as a Labor and Delivery nurse. She advanced her career with a perinatal nurse practitioner degree in 2006 and a post-masters certificate in midwifery in 2011, both from Stony Brook University. She has practiced midwifery in both the private and public settings, most notably at Nassau University Medical Center. There Joan was an advocate for the development of their Birthing Center. Joan is a leader in group prenatal care through Centering in Pregnancy. She is eager to continue providing the evidence-based midwifery model of care here at Stony Brook.

The Midwifery Practice is a participant in Maternal Infant Microbiome study with Dr. Gretchen Mockler in Family Medicine.
