About

Joanne Clyde is a highly experienced and dedicated Nurse Practitioner, specializing in Adult and Gerontology care, with a focus on Neurosciences and specializes in acute stroke services. Her journey in healthcare began in 1993 as a registered nurse, where she spent four years as an oncology nurse and obtained certification in chemotherapy administration.

Driven by a passion for patient-centered care, Joanne transitioned to the field of Neurology, working as a bedside RN in an acute stroke unit. Recognizing her aptitude for education, she advanced to the role of Nurse Unit Educator in 2002, where she shared her expertise and mentored her colleagues.

In pursuit of professional growth, Joanne obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 2010 and expanded her responsibilities, working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) on the Neurology Service, Nurse Educator, and Covering-Nurse Manager. Her dedication to advancing her knowledge and skills led her to earn a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Simultaneously, Joanne served as an Adjunct Professor for the Stony Brook School of Nursing, contributing to the education and development of future nurses. Her commitment to quality care and patient safety was evident in her role as an Acute Nurse Practitioner, where she played a pivotal role in designing Stony Brook Medicine's first designated Stroke Center, recognized by the Department of Health (DOH) and Joint Commission. Joanne actively participated in hospital-wide education initiatives, providing crucial training on Code BAT (Brain Attack Team) and recognizing the signs and symptoms of acute stroke. She also played an integral role in planning, facilitating, and presenting at the hospital's annual Stroke Conferences for over a decade.

Amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Joanne tirelessly provided medical and acute stroke care, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her patients and their families. She prides herself in being a fierce patient advocate and enjoys collaborating with the staff of the Patient Advocacy Department.
