About
I specialize in the care of surgical patients with gastrointestinal conditions. My clinical career is focused on the complex care of obesity, reflux disease and abdominal hernias. When it comes to surgery, Stony Brook Medicine is a leader in providing complex care for the patients who need it the most. I also have extensive experience in performing revisional or restorative surgery for patients who have had surgical procedures performed elsewhere, who now need expert assistance.
Specifically, in terms of obesity management, I have had the privilege of helping numerous patients, both teenagers and adults, with medical and surgical means. At Stony Brook, I lead a diverse team of experts from several disciplines, with a common goal of providing a safe unbiased environment for patients to explore all options for dealing with excess weight. Our ability to provide expert care with a variety of weight-loss options, tailored to each patient's individual needs is what has allowed us to be the preferred destination for our community.
I am very passionate about performing surgery with the least interruption to a patient's routine. Minimally invasive surgery allows us to perform difficult surgical operations through small incisions. My practice has a significant focus on Robotic Surgery, a technique that I utilize for several patients with excellent results. In addition, we have championed, at a national level, several approaches to accelerated recovery following surgery, with the ultimate goal of providing the best care possible.
The above interests have been further explored with research endeavors. Several of our research projects have been published in national journals allowing me to provide worldwide scientific knowledge, and also mentor young students in academic surgery.
Ultimately, the most rewarding part of what I do is when I cross paths with my patients in the community. I am a proud father of three young daughters, and fully ingrained into the communities surrounding Stony Brook University Medical Center. Meeting grateful patients in town not only brings a smile to my face, but also grounds me in the reality of changing people's lives for the better.
