Kristen Calabro, MD

I chose pediatric surgery for many reasons. I worked with kids as a camp counselor and as a volunteer, my sister was born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (so pediatric congenital anomalies are close to home) and then I was the sick kid on the other end of the bed having faced multiple surgeries myself. I always wanted a physician who took the time to help me understand and feel comfortable with how my medical treatment would proceed.
Having multiple surgeries myself including cancer surgery, I possess the unique ability to relate personally and in a humane fashion. I truly believe the ailment does not define the child. While I specialize in pediatric surgical oncology, I diagnose and treat a variety of general pediatric surgical conditions.
My research focuses around oncology and improvement in patient care. I consider the obstacles my patients and I face day-to-day and focus my research efforts into how things can be done better.
I am a Long Island native and returned here from my training fellowship in Montreal.
