About Melissa Rossi

About

Dr. Melissa Rossi is an attending psychiatrist and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital.  She completed her undergraduate education at the Schreyer Honors College at Pennsylvania State University where she graduated with Honors (in Human Development and Family Studies) and received two B.S. degrees in Psychology (Neurosciences) and in Science (Life Science).  She completed medical school at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine (The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center).  Dr. Rossi then went on to complete her Psychiatry residency training at Stony Brook; in her final year of training, she served as the program’s first Chief Resident of Wellness and Resident Development.  Since joining the faculty as an attending psychiatrist at Stony Brook, Dr. Rossi allocates half of her clinical time to integrated-care psychiatric services, women’s mental health care, and obstetrics/gynecology psychiatric referrals.  She is passionate about women's psychiatric-mental health issues and strives to improve the access and delivery of women's psychiatric care in the community. Dr. Rossi's clinical practice focuses on providing compassionate, highly individualized, comprehensive and evidence-based psychiatric services to adults in the outpatient psychiatry department.  Her areas of interest include: integrated care setting, collaborative care model, psychiatric disorders across the female's lifespan, mood and anxiety disorders, women’s psychiatric mental health, perinatal/OB population (pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding), pre-conception consultations, reproductive/infertility, premenstrual syndromes, obstetrics/gynecology, gastroenterology, telepsychiatry, and telehealth services.  Dr. Rossi also enjoys teaching, mentoring, and supervising our psychiatry residents and medical students.  She is an integral part of our department’s outpatient integrated-care clinical team.  She is currently a member of the American Psychiatric Association.  Dr. Rossi is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
