Alan Rheaume, MD, MPH

Alan Rheaume, MD, MPH, FRCSC is a Clinical Instructor and Cerebrovascular/Neuroendovascular Fellow in the Department of Neurological Surgery at Stony Brook University. He completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Alberta and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He also earned a Master of Public Health in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

At Stony Brook, Dr. Rheaume is completing advanced fellowship training in open cerebrovascular and neuroendovascular surgery under the mentorship of Drs. David Fiorella and Reza Dashti, while also maintaining a broad general cranial neurosurgery practice with independent attending responsibilities. His clinical practice encompasses the surgical and endovascular management of cerebrovascular disease—including cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, and cerebrovascular occlusive disease—as well as general cranial neurosurgery, including brain tumors, intracranial hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, and other urgent and elective cranial conditions.

His academic interests focus on cerebrovascular outcomes, emerging neuroendovascular technologies, procedural innovation, and the evaluation of new devices and image-guided treatment strategies. His research has included clinical and translational work in flow diversion, mechanical thrombectomy, embolization, and novel neurovascular technologies, with a broader interest in advancing evidence-based surgical and minimally invasive approaches to neurological disease.
