About Anshu Singh

About

Anshu Singh, MD, CMD, HPM is the Medical Director at the Long Island State Veterans Home (LISVH). The LISVH, is a 350 bed Subacute Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility at Stony Brook University also a teaching affiliate. She is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Stony Brook in the Department of Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine, Geriatric and Hospital Medicine.
Dr Singh is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Hospice-Palliative Medicine.
Dr Singh has twenty-five years’ experience practicing clinical medicine. Being a geriatrician, she is skilled in taking care of the patient as a whole and not simply treating the diagnosis they carry. When treating her patients, she looks at the whole picture to try to get a better understanding of their beliefs and values which in turn, helps understand patient’s treatment options and prognosis, shaping their present and future health related decision making.
Being a board certified palliative and hospice care physician, along with her extensive experience, knowledge, and compassion, Dr Singh is able to provide medical care to the frailest of the frail patient in their final lap of their journey. Providing comfort to both the patient and their family.
Teaching in her niche professional setting of a subacute rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility has been a passion of hers. She believes that all gerontology trained health care professionals should be vested in training all future health care providers. It is a high priority as there are not enough geriatricians in the country to care for the aging population in various health settings. Being a Site Director, she has the opportunity to educate a variety of trainees; Geriatric Medicine Fellows, Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellows, Internal Medicine Residents, Medical Students, and Physician Assistant students.
In her Administrative role as a Medical Director, she is involved in various aspects of developing and implementing policy and procedures to improve the care for the special population of geriatric veterans in a State Veterans Home. As part of the LISVH Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), which involves interdisciplinary team members and the geriatric medicine fellows, she has been the principal investigator and advisor for numerous Performance Improvement Projects (PIPs).
She is actively involved in state and national organizations in her field of practice. She is part of the executive board and secretary in NYS Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Society (NYSPALTC). She is also a member of the education planning committee of NYSPALTC. She is also involved in the State Based Policy and Advocacy (SBPA) Subcommittee for AMDA – PA/LTC (American Medical Directors Association – Post-Acute Care and Long-Term Care) and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. She represents NYMDA on the MOLST/eMOLST Committee for NYS.
