Benedict Urmaza, MD

        Dr. Benedict Urmaza graduated from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital/Harvard Medical School and his residency in ophthalmology at the St. Vincent’s Catholic Health Center in Kew Garden Hills, New York, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Urmaza subsequently took over patient care at St. Lucy’s Eye Center, a well-established private ophthalmology practice in Bohemia, NY founded by his father, Dr. Santiago G. Urmaza, Jr. Dr. Urmaza’s interests span a wide range of eye conditions, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. His surgical expertise includes cataract surgery, ruptured globe repairs, and lesion excisions.  He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Urmaza is committed to educating his patients about their eye conditions and helping them maintain quality ocular health. Dr. Urmaza is a native Long Islander and he enjoys fishing, tending his vegetable gardens, taking long walks with his dogs, and traveling with his family and friends.
