Brittain L Mahaffey, PhD

Dr. Mahaffey is a clinical psychologist and expert in womens mental health, anxiety, and stress disorders. She earned her PhD in clinical psychology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Northport VA Medical Center and her postdoctoral fellowship at Stony Brook Medicine. She is the director of our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program and leads our Womens Mental Health Integration program. She is also board certified in DBT and in in perinatal mental health counseling. Dr. Mahaffeys research focus on understanding risk for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) and developing better treatments for perinatal stress and PMADs. She is also interested in the prevention of stress and anxiety disorders in other vulnerable populations such as disaster emergency responders.
