Cecilia Avila, MD, MPH

Dr. Avila is a graduate of Universidad Nacional de Columbia School of Medicine in Bogota, Colombia.  She began her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale-New Haven Hospital from 1993-1994, and then finished her residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital 1994-1997.  Later she pursued a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Upon completion of her fellowship in 2000, Dr. Avila trained in Obstetric and Gynecological ultrasound at New York University before her arrival here at Stony Brook Medicine in 2004. Her clinical interests include high risk pregnancy, medical complications of pregnancy, infectious disease in pregnancy/HIV, fetal ultrasound/obstetrical imaging, and fetal abnormalities.  She has been a member of ACOG and CREOG since 2012.
