Desiree Fedrich, NP

Nearly 25 years ago I began my educational journey here at Stony Brook University as an undergraduate student volunteer in the booking office of the operating room. The professional and personal experiences I've had at Stony Brook Medicine have molded me into the Nurse Practitioner I am today.
My interest in breast cancer, specifically in breast surgery, came about when I was in my teens when my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. At that time there was so little that I knew medically, and that's what ignited a spark within me to do more. My grandmother's breast cancer diagnosis was just the beginning for my family. In 2010, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and we learned that there was a gene that predisposed many family members to breast cancer, malignant melanoma and pancreatic cancer.
I consider myself very fortunate that that little spark to be a healthcare provider that ignited during my teenage years never flickered out. That spark has allowed me to have had multiple opportunities to care for my own family and all of my patients. It is an honor and privilege to be part of the caring, compassionate teams here at Stony Brook Medicine, and to have the opportunity to care for people throughout their cancer journey.   It is my mission to provide hope, peace and confidence for our patients that are diagnosed with breast cancer throughout all phases of their treatment.
