Dr. Edward D. Wang has consistently been named as a "Top Doctor" in the New York Metro area by Castle Connelly since 2014. He has also been consistently rated a "Top Doctor" on Long Island by Newsday since 2014.A graduate of Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. Edward D. Wang completed his orthopedic surgery training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He then completed a fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University School of Medicine. Dr. Wang specializes in the treatment of pain and injury to the upper extremity and hand. He has over 20 years of experience treating problems of the shoulder, elbow, forearm, hand, and wrist at Stony Brook University Hospital. Using the latest technology, such as arthroscopy and total joint replacement, he seeks to deliver the least invasive treatment options while constantly striving to minimize risk and maximize benefit for his patients. Nonoperative treatment is given equal footing with operative treatment when considering the best treatment options for his patients. Intra-office injections using ultrasound guidance are a part of the nonoperative treatments available.Dr. Wang is currently involved in developing a nonoperative treatment for adhesive capsulitis, which is also known as frozen shoulder. Working closely with his research partner, Dr. Marie Badalamente, since 2003, he has spearheaded and completed three FDA-regulated multi-centered clinical trials to develop the use of an enzyme, collagenase, to dissolve the scar tissue which causes frozen shoulder. More clinical trials will follow as the two researchers continue to pursue full FDA approval of this novel nonoperative approach to the treatment of frozen shoulder.
