About
James Penna, MD specializes in the care of athletes and disorders of the knee, shoulder, and elbow. He is a member of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Penna is a native Long Islander, who has strong ties to the community and the university. He completed his orthopaedic residency training at Stony Brook and returned as an attending physician after he completed his fellowship at Lennox Hill Hospital. Dr. Penna is the current Chair for the Department of Orthopaedics, the Chief of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, a Professor of Clinical Orthopaedics in the Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine, and a team physician for the Stony Brook Seawolves - where he gets to exercise his passion for adolescent sports medicine. He also previously served as the Residency Program Director at Stony Brook and was the Team Physician for the New York Jets. Dr. Penna and his team take tremendous pride in providing the best possible care for athletes and others with sports medicine injuries.
