My passion for Urology started early in my nursing career back in 1988. I had the opportunity to take care of adult Urologic patients as a floor RN and got to know not only their various urologic conditions and procedures they required but also the Urology team. As I pursued my graduate degree to become a nurse practitioner, I was afforded the opportunity to work with some of the faculty during my clinical rotations and was able to see how complex these patients were and how hard team worked to take of them on both and inpatient and outpatient basis. I was fortunate enough to be hired into the Department of Urology in 1997 as their first inpatient nurse practitioner taking care of their adult population and have continued on in this role ever since. I get to work with all of the Urology faculty, residents, staff as well as work along side the dedicated nurses who work at Stony Brook University Hospital. It is amazing to see how much the Department of Urology has grown during this time span. 
During my years of patient-care experience, I developed an interest in postoperative delirium and how it can deleteriously affect vulnerable populations, particularly our elderly patients. I was able to further study and research this phenomenon during my doctoral studies in 2014-2016. Acquiring this expert knowledge has helped make me a better practitioner and help our team identify those patients who are at risk for delirium and what treatment interventions are best to use during hospitalization.
