About
Jessica started her professional career as an attorney after obtaining her J.D. from Georgetown University Law School. As a passionate advocate for children in the juvenile justice system, Jessica realized that she would be able to have a greater impact on the lives of at-risk children through the development and implementation of intervention and prevention programs. She obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Forensic Psychology from John Jay College and completed an APA accredited clinical child internship at Central Regional Hospital in North Carolina. Jessica specializes in clinical child forensic psychology, with an emphasis on the prevention and treatment of trauma in children, adolescents, and adults. Her clinical training focuses on utilizing evidence-based treatments, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), to treat depression, anxiety, eating disorders, PTSD, and deficits in interpersonal communication skills and emotion regulation across the lifespan. Last year, Jessica completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship through the Stony Brook University KPC-MBCRC Consortium Program. As a postdoctoral fellow, she initiated a DBT program for adolescents through the Mind Body Clinical Research Center, which features individual therapy, a multifamily skills group, and phone coaching for adolescents struggling with emotion dysregulation, self-injury, and suicidal ideation. She is looking forward to continuing her work in expanding the DBT-Adolescent program and developing other programs that will increase the availability services to the community. In addition to her position as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University, Dr. McCurdy is an adjunct professor at John Jay College in the Department of Psychology.
