Jimmy Master, PsyD

Dr. Jimmy Master is the Director for the Adult Outpatient Behavioral Health Division. He is a clinical psychologist and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Stony Brook School of Medicine. He obtained his PsyD at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He completed his fellowship training at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, where his work had an emphasis on studying and treating personality and relational issues utilizing relational and attachment focused treatments. Upon starting at Stony Brook, he has worked in the Psychiatry Outpatient Department, and as an integrated care psychologist in internal medicine. He also serves as the Director of the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Curriculum in the Renaissance School of Medicines psychiatry residency program. He is extensively trained in evidence-based treatments such as Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT), Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for personality disorders and other relational and chronic mental health issues. His research and clinical interests lie in the continued study of the role of attachment in the development of personality and the self, and its role in the enhancement of interventions and treatment of personality disorders, relational issues, and other comorbid mood and behavior related issues and concerns.
