Jonathon A Schwartz, MD

Viewing the whole perioperative care episode as a continuum of patient care before, during, and after surgery was one inspiration for my pursuit of critical care medicine, so that I may help patients recover from complex surgeries. Utilizing my skillset from anesthesiology training to improve postoperative care of patients was also a factor compelling my interest in critical care. I have broad experience with postoperative critical care, especially in the domain of cardiac surgery.

As an intensivist in the cardiothoracic ICU, I have worked closely with cardiac surgeons and a multidisciplinary care team to support high quality patient care. I have been involved in multiple research projects in perioperative and critical care, including respiratory care, bleeding, and cardiac surgical care.

I grew up in the Midwest and after travelling coast-to-coast for training, and then found myself moving to Long Island to live closer to my spouse's family. Year after year, I find new charming areas of the island and enjoy the relatively temperate weather. I have a background in engineering and enjoy tinkering with technology at home, which I feel naturally connects with the environment of advanced technologies in the operating room and ICU. Beyond that, I always enjoy discussing artisan coffee brewing!
