Julia A Powelson, MD

Julia Powelson, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital. Her clinical practice is focused in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Her research interests include developing innovative methods for procedural education and simulation-based education.
Dr. Powelson completed her undergraduate education at Tennessee Technological University and graduated summa cum laude. She went on to obtain her medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She completed residency in Internal Medicine and the University of Vermont Medical Center and was selected to serve an additional year as Chief Medical Resident. She then went to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center to complete her fellowship in Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Powelson joined the faculty at Stony Brook in 2023.
