Kate R Cecchetto, PA

Kate was raised here in Stony Brook, walking distance from the hospital. Her mother has been a nurse here at Stony Brook Medicine for over thirty-five years.   After many years away from her hometown living in Manhattan, Philadelphia, Virginia and Connecticut, she returned to Suffolk County to raise her children.

From a young age, Kate always knew she wanted to go into the health care field, and becoming a PA became her goal. After graduating from Drexel University's PA program with her Masters in Health Sciences, she moved to Manhattan where she practiced as a PA for 7.5 years.  Kate spent 10 years working in the surgery world; 1st assisting in the OR, taking call,  inpatient consults and outpatient clinics before making the change to the anesthesia side. She loves using her hands-on surgical experience and knowledge to evaluate pre-operative patients for both emergent and elective procedures. 

Back in February 2022, she piloted the inpatient anesthesia consult service with attending anesthesiologist Meng Wang, M.D., PhD.  The service is now staffed by four APPs and offers the surgical services inpatient anesthesia consults for any patients with concerns undergoing anesthesia. The goal is to provide better outcomes for patients by ensuring they are optimized for procedures and prevent surgical cancellations. 

She works at both Pre-Operative Services (Stony Brook Rd.) and the hospital performing inpatient anesthesia consults.  She also participates in research topics often with the anesthesiology residents as they rotate through Pre-Operative Services. 

When she is not working, she loves being with her family, riding her Peloton, reading, watching true crime documentaries and dining out at Mexican restaurants.
