Kathleen Finzel, MD

Dr. Kathleen Finzel, Associate Professor of Clinical Radiology, received her medical degree from New York Medical College. She proceeded to complete her clinical residency at Stony Brook University in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship at Cornell University in Musculoskeletal Radiology.  Appointed to Stony Brook University Hospital in 1993, Dr. Finzel honed her skillset to become the Director of Musculoskeletal Radiology.  After working as Director of Radiology and Associate Chair in other facilities, she returned to Stony Brook University Hospital – appointed in 2020. 

Dr. Finzel’s professional career has been focused on Musculoskeletal radiology.  Returning to Stony Brook Medicine in 2020, Dr. Finzel brings 30 years of experience to the care of all her patients. “I enjoy acting as a consultant and working closely with colleagues in orthopedics and rheumatology to optimize and coordinate imaging evaluation and care plans. My interests include evaluation of athletic injuries having previously worked with multiple professional and collegiate teams.”  Other interests include spine imaging and interventions, orthopedic oncology imaging and rheumatologic conditions.

Dr. Finzel enjoys teaching and fostering interest in musculoskeletal radiology with medical students, residents and fellows.  She previously served as Program Director of Radiology residency training at SUNY Stony Brook and is currently the Musculoskeletal Radiology Fellowship director.
