Kimberly James, PhD

Dr. Kimberly James is a NY licensed Psychologist and Behavior Analyst, currently serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from West Virginia University and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She also holds the BCBA-D certification. Dr. James specializes in working with children, adolescents, adults on the autism spectrum, and their families. She has a clinical and research background in the application of person-centered, skill-building approaches to therapy with neurodiverse individuals, and collaborative consultation models for working with parents and school personnel. Additionally, Dr. James has an interest in applying Behavior and Cognitive-Behavior Therapies to help children and adolescents experiencing difficulties related to anxiety, OCD, and trauma. Passionate about education and mentorship, Dr. James previously supervised numerous candidates pursuing NY mental health licenses and BCBA certification. At Stony Brook, she continues these efforts by providing psychotherapy supervision to Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows and teaching didactic coursework. She is an active member of the Department of Psychiatry’s Autism Team.
