Laura J Chan, NP

On May 20, 2014, Nurse Practitioner Laura Chan, NPP, BC, LCSW-R, joined the full-time staff of the department’s outpatient adult clinic, enhancing psychiatric care for adults as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ms. Chan, with diverse experience, previously served at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital and J.T. Mather Hospital Mental Health Clinic. She brings a background that includes roles as a staff nurse at Stony Brook's Adult Inpatient Psychiatry unit and a psychiatric social worker.

A Stony Brook University graduate in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, Ms. Chan holds a Master of Social Work degree from Adelphi University, an Associate’s degree in Nursing from Farmingdale State University, and a Master of Science degree in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing from Stony Brook's School of Nursing. Her journey from psychiatric social worker to certified nurse practitioner reflects her commitment to holistic patient care.

Ms. Chan's aims to enhance access to care and improve the patient experience, contributing to the department's expanded capacity to deliver high-quality psychiatric services to the community. She envisions leveraging her knowledge of inpatient services and community agencies to contribute to a more integrated behavioral health system. "I look forward to collaborating with the staff in all the department’s adult services to help our patients in the community live good quality lives," she said.
