Malissa Aponte, NP

I am a Family Nurse Practitioner with Stony Brook Urology- Kidney Transplant. I have been in the field of nursing for over 10 years and have been an advanced provider with the Kidney Transplant Team for over 5 years. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Molloy College in 2014. I then went on to Stony Brook University and graduated with a Master of Science in 2019.

I am very passionate and love what I do. I am inspired by our patients every day. Our Kidney Transplant patients have had to navigate through multiple health problems. They have been through hardships and setbacks regarding their health; despite this, our patients are resilient and have a strong desire to live a healthy, long life. My goal as their health care provider is to assist them on this journey. I strive to help our patients achieve their health goals and be the best they can be. My goal is to ensure our patients and/or their loved ones fully understand their disease process and why certain medications are prescribed. I believe an individual’s understanding of their disease and medication plays a big part in successful outcomes. Also, my goal is to make sure our patients know we care about them.

As I mentioned before, I am inspired every day by our patients. Our Living Donors are heroes; they give the most selfless gift of life to our Kidney Transplant recipients. Our Deceased Donors and families selflessly allow their loved one that passed to donate and give the gift of life; one life saves another. Our recipients are so grateful for the 2nd chance they received; the gift to live a full life. I feel very lucky and honored to work in this field and work with our patients every day.
