Maoxin Wu, MD, PhD

Dr. Maoxin Wu serves as the Chief of Cytopathology and the Director of FNA core biopsy services for the department of Pathology at Stony Brook Medicine. Previously, Dr. Wu served as the Director of the Division of Cytopathology and as Director of FNA service at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Wu is best known at the national level as an educator and authority in the field of ultrasound-guided FNA, through her clinical and research publications and through her involvement in the American Association of Cytopathology.   Dr. Wu specializes in Cytopathology with expertise in performance and interpretation of FNA and Core Biopsy with or without ultrasound guidance; and Surgical Pathology with extensive experience in Head/Neck and Pulmonary Pathology. Dr. Wu has a strong interest in early cancer detection and predictive tumor marker exploration in cytology samples.  Dr. Wu also the site Principle Investigation (PI) of NIH (R01) supported multi-institutional research on the detection of cancer in lymph nodes via quantitative ultrasound (QUS) in correlation with FNA pathology.
