About Mark Lerman

About

Dr. Mark Lerman is a general Adult Psychiatrist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Stony Brook School of Medicine. He obtained his D.O., at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. His residency was obtained at Stony Brook and the Northport VAMC on Long Island, NY. Upon starting at Stony Brook, he worked initially on the inpatient psychiatric service, (10 North), then transferred to the outpatient division at Putnam Hall as well as being the testifying psychiatrist for the Assisted Outpatient Treatment Program. He also was the first integrated behavioral psychiatrist in the Internal Medicine and Family Programs, (now Family Medicine only). He served on the Incident Review Committee as its chair and was a member of the Quality Care Committee. He has institute training from the Albert Ellis Institute in Manhattan, and was the initial Program Director for the newly formed Eastern Long Island Hospital of Stony Brook psychiatry residency program. Currently he continues with the Department of Family Medicine, collaborative care program, and Putnam Hall. Finally, he teaches a 4-hour weekly seminar on psychotherapy for the ELI residency program, that combines didactics and observed therapy sessions with first and second your residents. He works with Stony Brooks 4th year medical students in motivational interviewing, and supervises residents weekly at Putnam. He also teaches a Stony Brook 4th year residency program CBT supervision class, as well as individually supervises an ELI resident for CBT. Finally, he is conducting research in anger and violence mitigation with a colleague at University of California.
