Mary Ann Almonte, NP

I am a Nurse Practitioner with Stony Brook Urology – Kidney Transplant. I graduated cum laude with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later obtained my Master’s degree in the Family Health Nurse Practitioner program, both from Stony Brook University. I started my nursing profession working in internal medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital. This is where I developed my passion caring for our community with multiple comorbidities, specifically renal disease. I have always felt a special connection to this population both in my career and personally within my own family.
Having the opportunity to work each day with Stony Brook Medicine’s Kidney Transplant Team is a privilege. I especially enjoy communicating with our patients and working hard to see them through their second chance at life. I educate our pre-transplant patients to ensure that they are medically optimized prior to surgery through various testing and consults, as well as managed appropriately long term postop with their medications and follow up visits. As an active member of our multidisciplinary team, I empathize with our patients and deliver my care with compassion, valuing that organ donation is a gift like no other. My goal is to bring our patients back to the quality of life they strive for and deserve. Through sharing my medical knowledge and expertise, I hope to leave a lasting impact on my patients, just as they have on mine.
