Matthew L Petersen, PA

I have been in medicine since 18 years of age. I started my career as an EMT, and later on moved up to a critical care tech. Volunteering for my local 911 district really helped me solidify my desire to be in a career where I can help people, while making complex medical decisions. I then went on to finish my bachelor's degree x 2 in Southampton and later graduate the physician assistant program at Stony Brook in 2006. I immediately started my career here at Stony Brook, moving up the ranks to now working with oncology patients. My passion and desire is to help the entire patient and family dynamic during the complex diagnosis of cancer. Over the years, patients have described me to be thorough, kind, respective of their time, and compassionate. My motto is an educated patient is the best patient. Teaching is my passion during my visits and interactions with family and patient's thereafter. I truely do love what I do!
