Matthew V Tanzi, MD

Matthew Tanzi is a Board-Certified Attending Physician and Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital. He also serves as the Assistant Director of Clinical Operations for the Division of Emergency Critical Care.

Dr. Tanzi graduated from Stony Brook's emergency medicine residency where he served as an administrative chief resident. Upon graduating residency, he was awarded the Golden Probe Award for excellence in implementation of ultrasound in the clinical setting. He then completed a fellowship in Advanced Resuscitation under Dr's. Scott Weingart and Brian Wright. Most of his clinical time is spent in Stony Brook's RACCU (Resus & Critical Care Unit) where he teaches current residents and resuscitation fellows. He is actively engaged in advancing the field of emergency critical care in collaboration with other resuscitation fellowship programs. Currently, he leads the department's QA/QI and research program focused on airway interventions and video review evaluation, while also having an interest in implementing human trafficking initiatives in the emergency department. As a first year attending, Dr. Tanzi was awarded the Excellence in Teaching award from the Stony Brook Emergency Medicine residency program.

Dr. Tanzi grew up on Long Island and attended Hamilton College where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He graduated from New York Medical College and is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Outside of work he enjoys cooking, traveling, golfing, cheering for the NY Yankees/Giants/Islanders, and spending time with his family, wife, and Bernese Mountain dog named Turbo.
