Melissa Tuomi, PsyD

Dr. Tuomi graduated with honors from University of California, Irvine with a bachelor’s in Psychology and Social Behavior and went on to receive her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, San Diego.  She completed her post-doctoral internship at Community Research Foundation, a non-profit community mental health clinic. There she worked with those experiencing homelessness and severe and persistent mental illness in San Diego County.  During her four years she served as the Assistant Clinical Director helping to oversee clinic operations, support psychology practicum students, and engage in direct patient care.  She developed expertise in working with those with SMI, managing high risk behaviors, working with complex trauma, and building multidisciplinary relationships within the clinic and throughout the community.  Dr. Tuomi then went on to work at University of San Diego for the past six years both as a clinician and the practicum training coordinator.  Dr. Tuomi’s specialties include working with trauma and complex PTSD, and she is certified in EMDR and trained in CPT.  She is excited to start her East Coast chapter at Stony Brook!
