About
Dr. Puja Parikh, MD MPH, FACC, FAHA, FSCAI is an Interventional Cardiologist, the Director of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Program at Stony Brook University Medical Center, and Professor of Medicine with Tenure at Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine. Dr. Parikh's procedural expertise includes complex percutaneous coronary interventions ("stents"), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter closures of patent foramen ovale (PFO)/atrial septal defect (ASD), transcatheter mitral valve interventions, paravalvular leak intervention, left atrial appendage closures, and endomyocardial biopsies.
Dr. Parikh is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), American Heart Association (AHA), and Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). She is active in clinical research, serving as Principal Investigator in multiple cardiovascular clinical trials and authoring over 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts in several high-impact journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and Circulation. She has served on the national AHA/ACC Joint Committee on Performance Measures. She is a frequent lecturer at national and international cardiology conferences and has served as a live course lecturer for the national ACC/SCAI Interventional Cardiology Overview and Board Prep course, teaching principles of aortic stenosis, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and antiplatelet therapies.
Dr. Parikh is also on the question writing committee for CathSap, the most widely used board review question bank for the Interventional Cardiology Board Examination. She has co-authored the 2022 SCAI Expert Consensus Statement on Sex-Specific Considerations in Myocardial Revascularization, the 2025 SCAI Expert Consensus Statement on Alternative Access in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, and the 2025 ACC/AHA Guideline for the Management of Adults with Congenital Heart Disease and serves on the national writing group for Appropriate Use Criteria for coronary revascularization. Dr. Parikh also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Heart Association and the Journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and has served as a guest associate editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
In 2017, Dr. Parikh was selected as one of 12 interventional cardiologists worldwide for the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions Emerging Leader Mentorship (ELM) Fellowship. In 2022, she was selected as one of 25 cardiologists nationally for the American College of Cardiology Emerging Faculty Leadership Academy. In 2024, she was selected for the national American College of Cardiology Advanced Educator series. In 2025, she was selected as one of 22 female cardiologists nationally for the Sandra J. Lewis Mid-Career Women’s Leadership Institute. Her other national/international awards include the American College of Cardiology Young Investigator Finalist Award, the Cardiovascular Revascularization Therapies Young Leaders Recognition Award, the Catheterizations and Cardiovascular Interventions journal’s Christopher White Early Career Reviewer Award, and most recently, the Long Island Business News Health Care Heroes Award.
A graduate of New York University, Dr. Parikh received her medical degree from Stony Brook University Medical School and completed both her Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology fellowship at Stony Brook University Medical Center. She subsequently went on to complete both her Interventional Cardiology fellowship and an advanced fellowship in Structural and Valvular Heart Intervention at Columbia University Medical Center. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Interventional Cardiology.
