Richard G Timo, PhD

Dr. Richard Timo is a licensed clinical psychologist and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine.  Dr. Timo received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from St. John’s University, and completed his pre-doctoral internship at South Oaks Hospital.  He has experience and expertise working with children, adolescents and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.   Prior to coming to Stony Brook Dr. Timo worked with several school and home-based organizations that serve individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities and their families, across the lifespan. 

Dr. Timo utilizes behavioral support strategies and cognitive behavioral therapies that are evidence based and client centered, with an emphasis on function and skill development.   Additionally, Dr. Timo has clinical interest and experience in applying behavior and cognitive behavior therapies with children and adolescents who are experiencing difficulties associated with diagnoses of Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, ADHD, and Tic Disorders.

Dr. Timo also provides supervision and teaching, and for many years supervised candidates working toward their NYS licensure in various mental health professions.  At Stony Brook, he continues to provide supervision in CBT to psychology externs, and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows and Residents.   Dr. Timo is a member of the Psychiatry Department’s Autism Team.
