Robert A Honkanen, MD

Dr. Honkanen is a glaucoma and comprehensive ophthalmologist with over 20 years of experience. He received his ophthalmology training at Yale University and completed a glaucoma fellowship at the University of Iowa. He has been a faculty member at Stony Brook ophthalmology since 1999, and has served as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology since 2018.  He has won numerous resident teaching awards, conducts cutting edge basic and translational research in glaucoma and dry eye disease and has been and invited lecturer at both national and international meetings on his work.  He has been listed in Castle Connelly’s Top Doctors.  

Dr Honkanen sees patients in the outpatient clinics at Commack, East Setauket and Southampton.
