About
Dr. Roberta Seidman serves as the Director of Neuropathology for the Department of Pathology at Stony Brook Medicine. Dr. Seidman's neuropathology practice includes evaluation and diagnosis of a few hundred tumors of brain and spinal cord and other neurosurgical specimens each year, with a practice characterized by diagnostic excellence. Dr. Seidman has major expertise in neuromuscular pathology, having evaluated nearly 10,000 muscle biopsies over a period exceeding 30 years and co-authoring many articles about neuromuscular disease during this period, authoring 3 Medscape/eMedicine chapters about muscle histology, pathology and neuromuscular disease, lecturing extensively on neuromuscular disease at multiple medical institutions and at national meetings and serving as a reviewer of neuromuscular disease articles for a prestigious medical journal. Dr. Seidman has extensive experience performing brain autopsies and, in addition to performing neuropathological examinations on Stony Brook autopsy cases, previously served as the Neuropathology Consultant for the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner for almost 20 years (19 years and 8 months), evaluating a few thousand medical examiner cases, including cases of neurotrauma, neurodegenerative diseases, hereditary neurological disorders, central nervous system infection and stroke. Dr. Seidman has been and continues to be a co-investigator on research projects aimed at developing improved treatments for brain tumors. Dr. Seidman is extensively involved in teaching other medical professionals about the pathology of brain tumors and other neuropathological entities.
