About Sasha Weiss

About

Dr. Sasha Weiss is a board-certified psychiatrist who is passionate about providing psychiatric treatment for adults in the community. She evaluates and treats older adults in the Stony Brook Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of mental health and memory loss concerns among older adults. She also diagnoses and treats adults of all ages in the Integrated Care psychiatry program with Internal Medicine. Dr. Weiss’s collaboration with primary care physicians in the integrated care psychiatry program with internal medicine allows for more personalized care and increased access for patients for short-term psychiatric treatment through a referral from their primary care office. Her background in psychiatry and neuroscience from her residency training at Stony Brook gives her a unique perspective in her holistic, evidence-based approach to treating adults with general psychiatric disorders. Her clinical areas of expertise include:  anxiety disorders, trauma and stressor-related disorders, obsessive compulsive and related disorders, depressive disorders, adjustment disorders, somatic symptom disorders, insomnia disorders and neuropsychiatric disorders (including functional neurological disorders, neurocognitive disorders such as mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, and frontotemporal dementia).

Dr. Weiss is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health in the Renaissance School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Behavior from Columbia University and obtained her medical degree at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her Psychiatry Residency training at Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital and Stony Brook University Hospital through Stony Brook Eastern Long Island’s psychiatry residency program, where she served as chief resident in her final year. She enjoys being involved in the training of medical students and residents at Stony Brook and supervising psychiatry residents at Stony Brook Psychiatric Associates’ outpatient clinic location in Putnam Hall on Stony Brook’s west campus.
