Saurabh Gupta, MBBS

Dr. Saurabh Gupta joined stony Brook as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist on August 24th. Dr. Gupta is from a small town near New Delhi, India, one of the most historic cities of the world. He completed medical school and a residency in psychiatry in India. He completed another residency training in psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry here in the US. Dr. Gupta has worked with several biopharmaceutical organizations in various capacities including as Global Team Leader. More recently he worked as Associate Chief Medical Officer and Director of Medical Education & Training for one of the largest behavioral health systems in the Illinois. Clinically, Dr. Gupta has much interest in problems involving cognition, transdiagnostically. From the clinical syndromes perspective, neurodevelopmental disorders as they relate to cognitive development and childhood traumatic stress are of special interest to him. He directed a trauma informed care program at an acute care hospital which led to a successful disease specific joint commission certification for the same (the first hospital in the Illinois to get such certification). On the research side, Dr. Gupta is a strong proponent of Computational Psychiatry. He believes that we need and have tools now to bring in computational approaches to better understand psychiatric symptomatology. He is pursuing this approach to understand cognitive dysfunction in psychiatricdisorders and potentially better therapeutics.
