Stephen Vitkun, MD, PhD

I have been a practicing anesthesiologist at Stony Brook University Hospital and Professor in the medical school for over 40 years. I was born and raised on Long Island, and I received my undergraduate education at Stony Brook University. My interest in anesthesiology grew out of my interest in certain basic medical sciences (pharmacology and physiology) and their application in clinical practice. Stony Brook has provided me with the opportunity to care for patients in the operating room, and hospital, as well as teach medical, nursing and other health professional students and participate in clinical and basic science research. I believe each activity has helped me improve on the others. I am honored to be part of the Stony Brook Medical Community.
