About Svetlana Ilizarov

About

I am a board-certified physiatrist with more than 25 years of experience in academic medicine, clinical care, and medical education. My clinical expertise includes electrodiagnostic medicine, nonoperative musculoskeletal and spine care, prosthetics and orthotics, and the rehabilitation of patients with neurologic disorders and functional impairments.

Education and mentorship have been central to my career. For ten years, I served as Associate Residency Program Director at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where I oversaw resident education, curriculum development, clinical supervision, and competency-based assessment. I also chaired the Clinical Competency Committee for eight years, guiding resident evaluation and professional development. Throughout my career, I have taught residents and medical students through lectures, bedside teaching, and hands-on instruction in electrodiagnostic medicine, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, and neurologic rehabilitation.

My academic contributions include clinical program development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and service on departmental and institutional committees. In my current role at Stony Brook, I provide neurorehabilitation and electrodiagnostic care while helping to expand prosthetics and orthotics, wheelchair, and other rehabilitation services to improve patient access and quality of care.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to integrating excellent patient care with education, mentorship, and program development. I look forward to contributing my clinical, educational, and leadership experience to the Department of Neurology and the Renaissance School of Medicine, supporting the continued growth of rehabilitation, electrodiagnostic, and educational programs while mentoring the next generation of physicians.
