Growing up in Egypt, and attending medical school there, I have always had the interest to help those young patients crippled with traumatic brain injury from motor vehicle accidents, as well as, caring for patients with stokes. My Grandmother was one of these patients with stroke, which caused her to pass away when I was a young kid.

Luckily, I found this great opportunity here at Stony Brook, which is considered a major neurosurgery center, not only in Suffolk County but also on Long Island.  As a resident and as an attending anesthesiologist at Stony Brook, I get the privilege of providing good care to this patient population.

I feel both satisfied and honored when I see a stroke patient who came aphasic to the cerebrovascular suite able to speak after retrieving the clot. I am just as satisfied and honored to see a happy thankful patient who underwent a tumor resection.

Combining the clinical work with research about treating patients with vasospasm and the use of anti-thrombotic agents in the treatment of stroke patients only adds to the daily experience I get every day I come to work.
